I currently have a GIGABYTE H81M-DS2 motherboard but due to issues I'm having I need to swap it out alongside a new SSD/HDD.

I can't afford a new Win10 license. However, I took advantage of the free upgrade. Is there any way I can upgrade and keep my license? If not I'll just change my hard drive- I heard the motherboard will be the main issue.

It depends on what kind of Windows license you have. Did you purchase Windows or did it come with your PC? If you purchased it yourself, you are in the clear. Just download the media creation tool and install Windows 10. I would first try your existing installation. It may boot just fine.

I had a PC shop build it for me. It is likely I'll try a new SSD and install using the MCT to see if that remedies the problem. I know I can do a fresh install on the same motherboard. I'm just unsure of my license in the case I wanna change motherboard.

I have the same problem. I upgraded my windows 8 to 10 and my mother board went out. I got it replaced and now it's telling me to activate it. I don't have the activation code because it was already installed when I purchased the computer. Is there a way to activate this with the new motherboard without having to purchase Windows? I called HP and they said the code is in the partition or I would have to install Windows again. They would tell me for a $fee.
