Hardware (new):
Mobo - Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X
Processor - i5 9600kf
Ram - Corsair DDR4 3200 RGB Pro 2 X 8gb
Cooler - Cooler Master Evo 212
Hardware (existing)
Video Card- Asus GTX 2060 Super
Power Supply - Cooler Master CX750m
I just did a motherboard, processor, ram, and cooler upgrade on my PC there were no problems with my old system just upgrading. Under normal use the system runs like a top. I've done full days of work running my VDI, various internet sites, and videos with no problems. When I start playing games the computer shuts down specifically I have been playing Overwatch, iRacing, Dirt Rally 2.0, and as I just got in the Valorant beta I've been doing that.
In iRacing, Dirt Rally 2.0, and Overwatch I can often play for 15-30 minutes sometimes an hour. Then the computer shuts down and will immediately restart, run fine in normal tasks and shutdown when playing games. I have tried to get the computer to shut down running synthetic tests like Prime 95, 3dMark, userbenchmark. I keep an eye on temps and voltage with Openhardwaremonitor. Temps cap at around 65c on the vid card and cpu. All other temp sensors on the mobo are within normal ranges. Power draw is also correct with the Processor package pulling around 95watts max and the vid card 170watts.
Event Viewer shows nothing going wrong. Memtests were also successful.
At this moment I have very little connected to the computer just keyboard/mouse, SSD, video card and headphones. I have updated Bios, I have run on the drivers windows installed and also the drivers on Gigabytes site. I have fully formatted my SSD and reinstalled windows. I have turned off hybrid sleep and all other sleep or hibernate power options. I have gone through the bios and turned on and off anything I could find that helps with power supply and cpu load states.
I have tried my old GTX 1060 video card. I have tried every combination of 1 or 2 sticks in every slot for ram. I have pulled the full system apart down to the bare case and reinstalled everything.
Clues:
When I plug in my headphones to the rear audio output I have a very slight humming in them. Research shows others have encountered this issue with this motherboard. I have contacted Gigabyte support on this issue and am awaiting a response.
The mother board has an 8 pin and a 4 pin Aux power for the CPU. Researching this shows the 4 pin is not needed unless under heavy OC. My powersupply does not have the cable to run the 4 pin but I did make a a jumper cable using a the plug for a bad powersupply I had hanging around. I verified pinouts to make sure I wasn't shorting my motherboard. This had no effect. I have a new 1000w power supply that has both 8 and 4 pin aux power on its way but I really really hate throwing parts at this without knowing for sure.
It seems that when I'm testing and I get a shutdown the time where the next one occurs while playing is shorter but I can still run very heavy diagnostics without a shutdown immediately after. The Valorant beta shuts down quicker than any other game but can still be rather random.
Obviously something in the new hardware is the culprit but I cannot figure out what so that I can get an RMA or refund. Any clues on what I should try to fix the issue or what utilities I can use to narrow it down? I've been building and fixing PCs personally and professionally since the 80s and I'm stumped. I hope someone here can help.
