Hi all,

I built a gaming rig a few years back. I've had some problems with things cutting out randomly and found it was a fault with the motherboard. My build is here. If anyone could suggest a similar motherboard that would work alongside my current build that would be great. Suggestions other than an Asrock mobo would also be welcome - not sure if I want one of those again.

Thanks!

Probably going to have to buy a used board, or spend about 200 dollars. AsRock makes some good boards, I wouldn't hesitate to go with them again. You can find a new version of your board still, and it's the cheapest z77 chipset board out now.

Thanks for the head's up Swordkd. I'm hoping to grab something asap but I don't seem to be able to find the same board. Just checking Amazon (I'm in the UK) and there are a number of other Asrock boards- for instance the Z87 Extreme4. Would you recommend grabbing something like this, or better?

Thanks for all your help!

Checking compatability, picking the Asrock z87 (I wanted one off Amazon Prime to get it asap) it's not compatabile with my Intel i5-3570k 3.40 Quad Core CPU, so I changed it to the one on this list (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/QpfXLD) but I get this error "Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.". I don't know if this is a biggie, but ideally I wouldn't want to buy a new CPU in the first place as it's pretty expensive. Any recommends?

The Haswell Refresh Cpu's are supposed to be used with the z/h/97 chipset family. You have an Ivy Bridge Cpu, which is z77. Haswell is z87, and a different socket than Ivy Bridge. So, yeah. Haswell Refresh can work on z87, but bios needs updated, and IB isn't compatible with z87/z97.

That AsRock board you picked is a good one like I said earlier. AsRock started out as a subsidiary of Asus, but sometimes you just get bad boards. I've gotten two bad Asus boards in 17 years, so it just happens. Asus is my general go to manufacturer, and AsRock is my budget brand choice generally, although, they make really good mid and high end boards as well.
