New motherboard's status lights do not come on when power is run to it.

I recently received a MSI Z77A-G43 motherboard to replace an old one who's CMOS was inconsolably ruined. I put in my processor, GPU, a stick of ram, plugged everything that needed to be into the PSU (also new) and then plugged the PSU into a surge protector. I flipped the PSU's switch and absolutely nothing happened. No lights most alarmingly. Is the board fried somehow or am I missing something? Ask whatever questions you need. Any offer of help is greatly appreciated.

Is the switch on the Surge Protector On?
Have you tried pressing the power button on the case?

edit - You didn't mention plugging in the Surge protector into an outlet LoL Just covering all the bases
