New mouse cursor stops working but the buttons work

First of all I'd like to say that I appreciate anyone helping or even taking their time to read about my problem!

So I recently got a new Razer Deathadder Chroma and its been working great. Only recently has it started to suddenly die. The cursor stops moving and stays there no matter what I do but the buttons and the scroll wheel still works fine. The lights in the mouse are also working (for the logo and scroll).

However, the cursor does not stay dead 24/7. For the most of the time, it works perfectly. I can use the mouse for days without any problems. The problem just occurs at random times and for random amounts of time. Some days it just stops moving for like 30 seconds and then works again for the rest of the day. And other days it can stay dead for a much longer time or happen more than 5 times in one day.

I've tried stuff like changing usb ports, putting the mouse on another surface or a flat piece of paper, troubleshooting, resetting the mouse/mat calibration.

Its kind of ironic that my girlfriend is sitting next to me, using my old Deathadder which works fine while I'm having trouble with the new "better" mouse 🙁

Anyways, any kind of help is very appreciated!

Hi, have you tried using the mouse on another system? how does it perform?

I think it has something to do with the drivers. I'm not familiar with Razer software, but you should try updating your drivers to the latest version, or if this is already done, i'd consider roll-backing to a previous version of drivers. I've also seen a recommendation to try re-installing your PC's USB drivers from official motherboard's manufacturer's page - might be worth taking a look.

It sounds like you've got some sort of debris which is intermittently blocking the tracking sensor. Check the mouse's optical port for any obstructions like hair or lint trapped inside. Use some tweezers to remove it, or a can of compressed air to blow it out. If it's the type of mouse with a glass viewport covering up this hole, open up the mouse (if you're sure it won't void the warranty) and blow out any debris. A small piece of plastic left over from manufacturing may have broken off and could be randomly blocking the optics.

Worst case, there's a bad electrical connection somewhere inside the mouse. This connection only affects the tracking (either the sensor or the LED), which is why the buttons still work when the tracking dies. You'd have to RMA the mouse in this case.

Oh okay! I'll remove the drivers and reinstall them completely to the latest. The only problem is that only time will tell if its working or not since it can go days without the problem occurring. Not sure if I'm allowed to have this thread up for that long...

Its OK. This forum is meant to help with tech questions and right now you're testing / trying to solve your issue - take your time, you should only worry about admins "closing" your thread only if it was like a month, two or three of inactivity.

Hello again, So I did what you said back in May and removed the drivers and installed them back again and after that I didn't have the problem for the longest time. Until a day ago it started doing the same thing again. Cursor dead on the spot while clicking and the light of the mouse still works. Sorry to take up your time again but I don't really know what to do at this point
