New mouse mat, now my mouse keeps spasming when I lift it

So I got a new mouse mat today, and now my mouse has started doing little spasms when I lift the mouse slightly up. I know it is happening because it still thinks it's on the surface when I lift off. But I can't find any ways of like calibrating it or something. (Asus Cerberus Mouse) I tried the mouse mat with a cheapo wireless microsoft mouse and it was fine.

I have and it still does a weird flick, when i purposely lift the mouse from the pad and move it around it still registers the movement even though I have about a finger width between the two. However this doesn't happen when it's just on my desk

If it is a new mouse or pad, I would just exchange it for another.
