Hi everyone. I just bought new gtx 660 and a new power supply LC power 600w. I installed it an it worked perfectly.Next morning my computer didn't want to boot anymore.what could be the problem?

i have Asus p8h61 m le motherboard
intel i5 2300

computer works fine without the card plugged in and monitor plugged into integrated graphic card..could it be psu? do i need bios update?
i have read that quite a few people had similar problem...

thanks everyone for any help

When you say it didnt 'boot', do you mean that there is no picture on the monitor, or that the PC simply wouldnt turn on?

If there is no picture on the monitor when you have it plugged into your GPU, then you probably have a faulty GPU. OR it is another problem related to the GPU.

If the PC wont turn on at all, try replacing the PSU with your old one and see if it turns on then. If it does, you have a faulty PSU, if it doesnt, then we'll try a few other things.

well...i took the card to the store and they've tested it with their computer, not mine..it worked fine with a weaker psu...i tried unplugging one ram and i got a picture on the screen - MB logo and that "windows loading" logo..after that the pc just reboots or monitor goes to sleep mode ...lol I don't even know how to explain 😀

Okay, I think I get what you're on about there.

The store tested your GPU on a smaller PSU and it was fine.

You removed a DIMM (Ram module) and you got a signal thorugh to the screen, but it just goes into a boot loop after that? Is this with or without the GPU isntalled?

The only thing I can think of right now without knowing more is the possiblity of faulty hardware. By the sounds of it you may have a faulty DIMM, a corrupt HDD and possibly a faulty PSU. While this is unprobable, it is not impossible.

Are you taking the appropriate anti-static measures when installing/removing components from your PC?

i removed one ram module(one was still in) and i got a signal through the screen but after windows logo it goes to sleep mode..yes it was with gpu installed.

i tried to boot in safe mode a few times but pc just froze after few minutes. one time i managed to unnistall all graphic drivers.. then i started windows normally , waited for windows to download drivers and install them.then my pc rebooted two times but then it seemed to work fine..i tried to play a game, watched the video in 3d. the i shut down my pc and when i tried to boot it again it just froze after windows logo.this time it was no picture on monitor which was not in a sleep mode..i tried to boot it in safe mode again but it froze again..

btw i really appreciate your help "grebgonebad" thanks

Okay, so you may have a faulty DIMM for starters. Is there another PC you could install this DIMM into (With all others removed) to see if it works in that PC?

Okay, so you managed to uninstall the grpahics drivers, whihc is a good start, and then Windows installed some generic graphics drivers for now. Did you install the appropriate Nvidia drivers for your GPU afterwards, or just left it as is?

Is your CPU overclocked by any chance? Sometimes if you install new hardware when you have an OC'd CPU it can mess things up a bit. If you have OC'd it, go into the BIOS and revert the CPU configuration to default and see of that works. If you ahvnt OC'd your CPU, ignore this section obviously. =)

There is one solution I can think of that could possibly be the answer. And that is a fresh OS isntall. On several occasions I have had a problem with my PC boot-looping or BSOD'ing for no apparent reason, and simply reinsatlling the OS fixed it. If you are not keen on doing that, you could try a system restore or even an OS repair?

Have you thought about the possiblity of a faulty HDD? If your PC is getting past POST, but then crashes when loading windows, this probably means that either a windows system file is corrupt or the HDD itself is faulty in msot cases.

And no problem for the help, it's what we're all here for! =)

Apologies for the late reply, I had a gig on Saturday night and have only just woken up properly. =P

Yes, try the DIMM in your friends PC and see if it works. If there is a problem then you do have a faulty DIMM.

As far as updating your BIOS goes, providing that is the motherbaord you have, and you have selected the correct OS, all you have to do is follow the simple BIOS update instrucitons that are usually found in your mobo user guide. If the instructions are not in there, then Asus's website should have something.

If you have not updated your BIOS before, I would advise you to open a new thread asking people to give guidance on this, as I am not an expert on this. I have a motherboard with an easy BIOS update option, and so I do not know how to do it manually unfortunatly. I do know, hoever, that you should perform a full CMOS reset before updating.
