New MSi R9 390 no signal

Hello,

First of all, here are my system specs:
- Intel i7 920
- Mobo Intel DX58SO
- DDR3 12GB Kingston RAM
- Cooler Master v650 PSU
- Windows 10
- New MSi R9 390

I just received my new MSi R9 390 so i plugged it in my computer (plugged in the first PCIe slot, with the 8-pin and 6-pin connectors both from my PSU - i didn't use the adapter that came with the gpu) but it ain't working. I have installed the drivers provided in the CD that came with it but it didn't solve the issue (duh...) Here's in detail what happens when i power on my computer:
1- I press the power button.
2- The fans of the processor, the case, and the graphics card start spinning (all the lights also light on).
3- I wait 3-5 seconds without any signal in the monitor.
4- Then there is about 5 seconds where the monitor receives a signal
5- After, the monitor stops receiving signal, and nothing happens (i have waited 10 minutes and nothing happened)

One thing to note is that normally, when my computer "is going to boot", i can hear the fans of my processor reving to about 80%, then going down to a quieter level. With the r9 390 installed, the fans of the processor stay at 80%.

What can i do to make my new graphics card work on my computer?

P.S. I am using the exact same setup right now (with an Asus hd 6570 rather than the shiny r9 390) to write this thread. Therefore, there is a very high chance that everything i am currently using is in perfect working conditions.

The 6570 and the r9 300 have different drivers, you have to fully uninstall the driver you have and install the correct one for the r9 390.

I have indeed uninstalled completely the hd 6570 drivers before installing the r9 390. I can retry that with the amd cleanup utility to be sure there is nothing left.

Just by curiosity... will the motherboard check the drivers of a graphics card before the OS starts booting?

Motherboard doesn't check anything, windows does. If you don't have specific drivers installed it loads generic VGA drivers.

No: i cannot even see the screen where it tells to press X key to go into the BIOS. All i see during the 5 seconds of signal on the monitor is a black screen.

You might try updating your bios. I ran into an old MSI motherboard from my friend that was PCI-E 2.0 and for his new graphics card to work it needed an update.

Others have had problems with PCI-E 3.0 cards and that motherboard.

UPDATE: I have installed the MSi r9 390 in my brother's computer and there was no problem what so ever (appart from the text being all weird because i didn't want to remove his graphics driver)

Antec HCG 620w PSU
Windows 10

The only thing you can try is updating your motherboards bios.

I didn't think about this. After verification, i THINK my bios is outdated (i have never done this nor have i ever searched on this). Could you verify for me please? Here is a picture of my bios version:

I finally got my amazing r9 390 to work by updating the bios of my motherboard. I can't thank you enough andy_man for helping me!!!!!!!!! I'm really happy right now if you can't tell 😛

Just for helping others with this problem:
I downloaded and installed this bios: SOX5810J.86A.5600.IB.EXE. My computer rebooted a few times, then windows booted and it told me the bios update was succesful (all this was done with my old, working graphics card).
After that, i installed my r9 390, then when i powered on my computer, it was kinda stuck in a reboot loop. I was occupied doing something else so i didn't pay much attention.About 15 minutes later, i force-shutdown my computer, then rebooted and everything started working perfectly (boot, driver, etc.)

Make sure you plug in both a 6 and 8 pin comnector. Thats probably commom sense for most? LOL
I only had a 6 pin in. Wasnt until a youtube video did i figure it out. Everything else ran on auto. Working great. And im using a 550w gold.
