Hi all,

basically, I want to put together a new PC. The PC will primarily be used for work from home/office purposes, but also for gaming in my free time (I realise that the setup is overkill for the former purpose, but, I would think, necessary for the latter). In planning the setup, I have primarily used the following as a model: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/guide/jFLrxr/magnificent-intel-gamingstreaming-build. However, I have added a larger SSD (mainly so that I can fully sync my dropbox folder locally). Also, as I am based in East Asia, my local seller here had tweaked the setup as some components are not available and/or he felt that they could be replaced with something better. In any case, here are the details:

This is what things look like now:

Intel Core i7-12700K 12 cores 20 threads
MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI - DDR4 ATX
MSI GeForce RTX 3090 VENTUS 3X O24G
G Skill Trident Z Neo RGB DDR4 3600MHz 32GB (2x16GB)
NZXT C Series C850 850W ATX Modular 80 PLUS GOLD
Corsair iCUE 5000D AIRFLOW Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX PC CASE
Black
Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 2TB (MZ-V8P2T0BW)
Noctua Chromax.black NH-D15S 150mm

Approximate Purchase Date: This month

Budget Range: 3000USD

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
Office/Work from Home, Surfing the Internet, Gaming

Are you buying a monitor: No, current monitor is the AOC U28P2U 28" 4K IPS and I just bought a new Samsung 28" 4k monitor as a second monitor

Do you need to buy OS : No

Parts Preferences: none

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 4k

Why Are You Upgrading: Current PC is three years old, without a dedicated GPU and came prebuilt, which means I have to replace quite a few parts if I wish to truly upgrade it. Therefore, I am thinking I'd rather invest properly in a new PC.

Additional comments: The setup as it stands comes to 3100 USD, which is still within my budget. I had planned to keep it within 3000USD, but a bit over it is fine. It seems to be somewhat high compared to UK prices, but that might be due to my being located in East Asia. Hardware-wise, the setup looks fine to me, but before I go forward, I wanted to ask for opinions and advice here first.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You should look into a 1.2KW PSU to power that rig, with that RXT3090 in there. Outside of that , the build is fine.

This is the part where you state where you're located. Parts availability can and will vary due to region.

I just upgraded to the 12700k and I love the cpu lol, I play modded dayz and I used to get 40 fps most of the time, now I am hitting like 80 to 100 fps lol, I would add more storage is my only suggestion, but you can always do that over time too.

Solid build ^^

Here's a few cost cutters worth considering if you're looking to lower the cost of that build.

Just an opinion.

As you move up the perf ladder you hit the point of diminishing returns.
Meaning you spend some serious bucks for not much extra.

I would stop at the 12700 cpu....not the K model.
Since I'm not going to overclock I would not need that Z mobo.
Gpu.....it does not seem the 3090 is worth it over a 3080 ti.

Any recommendations for the PSU? I found this one, but not sure it is good:
