I am recycling an older Gigabyte Z77MX-D3H 1155 mobo and i7-3770 cpu I recently upgraded from into a family computer. I bought a new case and PSU and just transferred all existing components. Prior to doing this, everything was working fine. When I power the new system on, all fans turn on, and on my monitor I get a quick flash of the BIOS screen but then the screen goes black immediately after I hear a short beep. I am not using a separate video card.

I have followed the troubleshooting guide stickied in this thread but have had no luck. Specifically I gave tried multiple monitors, PSUs, RAM, cleared CMOS, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just an update...I removed all the RAM, started the PC, and got a bunch of rapid beeps which is a good sign. I then tried a different CPU (i3) but had the same result. I also tried breadboarding the mobo with no luck. Could it be that my mobo is fried somehow?

Problem solved...there was a tiny bit of thermal paste on the CPU shorting a few of the contacts. Cleaned it up and the system works!
