Recently got my hands on a
Intel® Desktop Board DQ35MP mini tax MoBo. Frankenteined a temp set up from older rigs I have lying around.
Current set up:
CPU: Pentium E5200 @ 2.5GHZ (cane with MoBo)
RAM: Strontium 2GB DDR2 800mhz

***Problem # 1 MoBo site says it supports up to 8GB, yet I can’t seem to use 4GB memory running at the same frequency, tried resetting bios and flushing CMOS, as well as reseating the RAM in seperate slots. Need help picking out RAM, direct link would be helpful.

Storage: SSD running fresh Win 10 boot.

*** Problem/ question 2 Currently using onboard graphics as I don’t have any spare GPUs lying around. GPU on main rig is in a water block connected to an open loop. Prefer not taking it apart to test this but is the MoBo compatable with say a GTX 1080? Never worked with an old MoBo before, just thought it’d be fun Suping this rig up.

***Question 3 the MoBo site states that the socket is LGA775. Would any CPU with that socket type be compatable with this MoBo, and if so mind pointing me to what CPU I should get.

Cheers.

Solution
1- have you checked the max ram CPU supports? are you using single 4gb stick? does the CPU support that? sometimes ram doesn't work if you use mismatched sticks.
2- It should work. PCIe 2.0 16x bandwidth is sufficient for GTX 1080 but it will mostly be the CPU bottle-necking the GPU.
3- Never looK CPU's by socket look them by chip-set. CPU might physically fit in socket but if it's not compatible with the Chipset it's most likely not going to work.

don't think its a good idea to put that power full GPU in this old PC. did you checked if the PSU can handle this?

1- Yeah. It should cap out at 8GB. With that in mind, can you point me to where I can find 2x4GB RAM kit for this MoBo? Link to MoBo Spec >>Here<<
2- Well aware of the CPU holding the Rig back. This isn't going to replace my main rig. Just a little side project I'm playing with right now.
3- You seem well verse. Can you check if >>this CPU<< is compatible? Chipset is: Intel® 82Q35 Graphics and Memory Controller.
Thanks.

the motherboard uses Intel 82Q35 Graphics and Memory Controller.
oddly enough your current CPU is not listed as compatible with this chipset/Memory Controller Hub(MCH). however Core 2 Quad Q9650 is compatible with 82Q35 chipset/northbrige/MCH or what ever they called it back in the days. so it should work. Link
Also make sure you didn't miss read the motherboard model number.

Solution

you can find the ram on ebay. Almost any ddr2 should work. I'm unsure if 4GB modules will work. you can test it tho. Also you can probably still load it with 8GB by using 4 x 2 GB modules.

Opting for 2x4GB as from what I can discern from the MoBo info it supports dual channel memory.
