Hello these are the parts im wanting to combine. I was just given a pc from a friend, the powersupply was bad and i was going to throw his parts into my pc using my current mobo, Hd, and power supply. Hopefully combining the ram if they work, ive been told before its just trial and error for mixing.

I have a 700w powersupply aswell and enough connections for the card. I was using a radeon hd 5850

Not sure what problems would arise if i slapped my hd and power supply into his case but i guess thats an option too.

The new ram is compatible with your motherboard, but you should not combine. They have different voltages and different timings.

The new graphics card should work in your system as well, it uses around 20% more electricity but your PSU should handled that (150w vs 170w).

His motherboard and yours are not inter-changeable. They use different CPU sockets.

I added the ram and gfx to my current system. Its listing 8gb of ram under system, so i began to install the gfx drivers. About 5-10 minutes into the download the pc just shuts down. The ram is listed at 1.65v and i read the mobo specs as
4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules
Support for non-ECC memory modules
Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
(Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest memory support list.)

Could this be an issue or do i need to specify the voltage, if my mobo can even do 1.65v?

I wasnt looking when the pc turned off but its happened twice now. Going to try to watch this time and see if anything is shown.

Probably should have done 1 part at a time.. may put old ram in and attempt to dl drivers once more. To clarify, im adding the ballistix ram and 760 to the gigabyte mobo

Ok i was at the pc this time when it turned off, no blue screen or error at all just power shut off completely.

Ive now removed the new ram and restarted to attempt to download drivers again, since i was crashing before they finished. However when the pc booted up windows automatically seemed to be downloading and installing gfx drivers and my resolution changed. Just waiting on it to finish and i can test stability. Tho it seems the ram may have been the issue sofar? Wondering if voltage or frequency was the problem since i was showing 8gb i assume both sticks were good and detected? Cpuz has the ballistix at 1.5v 8-8-8-21 2131mhz
Edit: nope finished installing everything thought i was good to go and loaded up overwatch before i even got through changing graphical settings computer shut down again. Went to remove the gfx and test new ram and old gfx and noticed the 760 was pretty hot on removal, platic on the side with the fan was warm and the metal backplate was very hot, wondering if it was the gfx overheating now. My fan setup is back and top blowing out and front blowing in. Ive never had temp issues with other cards but this one is a blower setup card i think? Any other advice on this?

At this point ive given up and put my old gfx and ram back in the pc so i can play a game and relax however in now having new problems. With previously great running parts and pc ive now had a framerate loss to 7fps in game, which im guessing is driver based but i havent had luck fixing it yet. And the second problem is my cpu randomly shut down while using my old parts just like with the new parts. I cant figure out whats causing the pc to shutdown.

To update, computer shuts down randomly when i tested ram and gfx separately. Decided to go back to old parts for now until i can figure out the problems but games arent running like they were not sure if it's a driver problem or something to do with the ram speed and timings being changed from testing the new ram. I tried to install smart6 and easytune with my mobo disc to view voltage but had a crazy amount of errors during the install so maybe bios was changed? I know this is alot of information, im not the most skilled at advanced pc things so what should i try first to get my pc back to working as it was for now. Ill have my friend look at everything this weekend but would like to get it running sooner If possible. From reading similar stories people suggested ddu to remove drivers and start fresh since i did not do that prior to installing the new gpu. And someone else set bios to default or pulled cmos to get his ram up to speed . Not wanting to do that tho.

New thermal paste on gfx seems to have fixed issue, put some on my i5 aswell.. now everthing seems to work.. wow. Cpu is at 88c idle and bios seems high but i dunno what else to do with stock coolers.

88c at idle is alarmingly high and does explain the crashes.

Did you replace the thermal paste on the CPU? If you did, you probably used too much. Most everyone goofs the first few times they do that and use 2-3x too much paste. The goal is a very thin coat (as thin as possible). Too much acts like insulation. The job of thermal paste is to fill in the tiny invisible "cracks" in the metal so that the heat sink and CPU sit as close to perfectly flat metal to perfectly flat metal.

Once you address the likely issue with the thermal paste, maybe add another case fan?

I had a friend there who i trust more than myself to do the paste the temps were almost identical pre new paste i think the 760 just runs hot with stock cooling? I could try to reapply tho if i do i may just use the mobo and cpu i got from his old rig, ive just been lazy recently not wanting to pull everything from my case.

Im hoping the new paste on gpu, and disabling the xmp on new ram is what fixed it ive been running stable for a few weeks, i shut down nightly now tho. The temps are my only concern and ive been trying to monitor them while gaming, inside the case is normal temps and the exhaust top and back fans arent blowing out hot air except on the gtx 760 blower. I dont have room for a side mount fan, where would i try to put one and would i want in or out air?

Heat rises, do you have the possibility of a top mount fan?

I currently have 1 top blowing out 1 back blowing out and one front sucking air in. Not alot of room elsewhere, the gfx card is large in my case dunno if i could fit a side fan or not its be snug. Case is the cm scout 1

That 4750 is a pretty good chip. You got a nice friend who gave it to you. Compared to the CPU you'll be far ahead. Each new CPU doesn't just run a few more MHZ it does more work per mhz. So a old i5 at 3ghz is not as fast as a new one at 3ghz. In your case you'll be going from a i5-760 at 2.8ghz to a i5-4750 T 3.2 (and boosts to 3.6), should feel much faster.

I was mistaken its the 4570, i didnt want to remove the hs again to check but i know it was 3.2ghz and finally removed it, to make sure. So not as goos but still awesome. My current processor is dated i know so im hoping the mobo and 4570 he gave me work, he gave me the whole pc when it wouldnt turn on anymore, im assuming its a faulty psu but worst case i could buy a cheap mobo i guess. One of the reasons ive waited to swap everything is both laziness and wanting to make sure everything works before i take everything out of ny current case his case was snall and had 1 fan. Is an old 400w psu enough to run the 4570 and a gtx 760? I could test with my old old old rig and just run cables from case to case i guess. I thought they would perform similar both around 3ghz but benchmark tests show atleast 30% increase? Im getting around 40-50fps on overwatch currently which seems low maybe its cpu, someone suggested new ram could be slower than old ram, i feel like my fps was higher with old parts.

This is because CPU clock rate means next to nothing.
Most focus on that, but that is the same as buying a car based on RPM. Unless you are comparing the exact same engine, comparing the RPM means next to nothing.

Your newer CPU has a much improved IPC (Instructions per clock cycle) and so it does more work per GHZ.

Thanks for the helpful info, ill look into testing the mobo/cpu soon to make sure only his psu was faulty. Im excited to see performance increases since i feel like im getting lower fps than i should in overwatch.

Is there a reason my current i5 760 would be running 2.3-2.4 ghz instead of 2.8 listed? Does it slow down when its not in full use? I cant remember where i saw the listed speed recently but i remember thinking it wasnt max. I didnt think the 2.8 was turbo or anything maybe the heat is down clocking it? What software should i use to monitor it and is there a reason or way to get the listed 2.8?
After seeing the heat from this first build years ago and knowing a bit more ill never trust stock coolers again. Is the evo 212 compatible for multiple cpus if i got one for now could i take it to new builds later?
Also do you know if his msi h81m-e33 mobo is good for the i5 4570? I dont have any extra slots needed currently since its a micro, id be putting it in the cm storm scout case i think ill be ok on cable length.

Thank you again for continuing to help answer questiong on bettering my pc graveyard. Im currently out of work for the first time in a while and getting around to finally doing some stuff i enjoy, just broke now haha.

and then run
aide64
both are free and you can monitor what your CPU does under load. If it remains at 2.2 or so, I would suspect your BIOS settings are wrong.

So after using the parts for a while and having some issues in raids on world of warcraft ive ordered a hyper 212 evo to help cpu temps but the i5 is still under clocked to 2.4 and is set to 2.8. I read a few others had similar issues with 1600mhz ram and maybe causing a 2.4 downclock. How can i go about fixing this issue?

Yea it was never going above 2.4, from reading and help from others guessing its a problem with the ga-p55 or i5 760 not letting the ram downclock from 1600 to 1333 without also down clocking cpu

if you decide to upgrade hopefully this will benefit what you can use to expand the i5 chip, and not allow high temps. good luck.
