Hello all,

First of all, thanks for any feedback =]
Currently wanting to have a good upgrade on my pc, some of my pc parts are reusable.
This is for a gaming build am not an overly hard core gamer however I would like to build a PC that will last me a few years without requiring updates,

What I am thinking:

Motherboard: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Z390-AORUS...TER+9th&qid=1558337229&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0
Cost: 260.99
CPU: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-BX80684I78700-Core-i7-8700-Processor/dp/B07598HLB4/ref=sr_1_13?keywords=cpu+socket+1151&qid=1558018119&s=gateway&sr=8-13&th=1
Cost: 275.85
SSD: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PM347GV/ref=sspa_dk_detail_7?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07PM347GV
Going for NVMe, Cost: 127.44
RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Viper-Stee...s=DDR4-4400&qid=1558341228&s=computers&sr=1-1
Cost: 129.59 (maybe get 16gb instead of 8)

I have not yet decided on a case however I am looking to buy one with good cable management,

From my current PC I have a PSU which is 750w,
My Graphics card is https://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb...mhz-gddr5-gpu-1140mhz-boost-1279mhz-cores-166
Normal SSD and a few HDD

I am aware with this build my graphics card is a bit rubbish and outdated, I will probably update this later in the year. or if I see my graphics card is clearly holding the PC back.

I have 2 questions,
If I put my budget to say 1k....
Does my above build seem good enough? or is there any changes you would recommend? (better equipment for a slightly more money)
I was debating putting a better cooling system in the computer, however not sure if it will make a massive difference?

Thanks again for any advice given,
G

Well if you'll pair a 970gtx with i7-8700 you'll probably have some kind of a bottleneck in GPU intensive games.
You could go with a cheaper motherboard instead of paying all that and go for a better gpu?
What is the make and model of your psu and how many years have it been used?

Thanks for the reply,
I was thinking if I get the rest of my kit sorted then after a month or two more of saving I will get a new GPU, so i wont be without a good gpu for a long time :p

My PSU is worse than I thought, 650w and is 9 year old. (now thinking I might have to upgrade that as well...)

I'd go down the AMD route, save money and keeps performance great

Id be happy spending between 1500 and 2000 on this so will be happy upgrading anything if you feel I can do better with some of them,

I could be wrong as I've always gone for Intel, I understand AMD are cheaper but am I correct at thinking Intel usualy is better?
Thanks again for any suggestions

8700 isn't old? its legit 8th gen still up there in CPU's, plus not all ryzen CPU's are better in multitasking, only different between both of them is gens and probably some cores and threads.
Is the OP has the money to buy the 8700k its a really good option for gaming and such.
Plus the 8700k has more threads than the 9700k which makes it better for demanding games.

He was going to by the 8700, plus Intel already superseded it with 9th gen and are about to push out their 10th gen.... because Intel loves to keep re-releasing same shit, with not much improvement, then change the motherboard every 2 gens. Remember the 7th gen lasted only 9 months before the 8th gen was released. Which again needed a new motherboard. Even though technically you don't, they make it so you have to upgrade and upgrade

Well if i had a 8700k CPU i wouldn't want to change my CPU neither motherboard for another few years, upgrading each year is not suited for everyone some of them has the cash to spend so they do it.
I have had my i5-4960k for a month so far, had a 4460 but bought that one from a friend, and i dont think i'll be replacing anything anytime near.
8700K should be more than enough for like 3 or so years.

Well you never know if that ryzen processor will be cheap enough for people like OP to buy it or not.
And if he is on a hurry the 8700k is a good option.
If the rumors were to be true i wouldn't give it a price lower than 400$ or something around that.

Thanks, Interesting regarding CPUS, it has never been my strong point, either way tho, no matter what one I go for it seems there may be a new gen coming out for either, as mentioned they release cpus every few months so am never going to have the best cpu out there,
I was debating getting an i9 however a decent one does add an extra 200 quid (Which is doable in my current situation) I just dont if it is worth the extra or not?
