Hey forum,

I'm somewhat experienced with computers but have come across a problem I've not had before, I recently bought a pre-built due to time constraints but thought I'd ask a few questions whilst I wait for their reply too. Specs are as follows:

i5-4570
GIGABYTE GA-H87M-HD3 Mobo
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance (1600)
MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC 2048MB
1TB Sata 3 HDD
120GB Samsung 840 EVO
500W Corsair Builder Series CX500M PSU
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO Fan
Windows 8.1

When I first start the system, it will boot up fine, will load in to Windows quickly and that will be that. Over the course of 10-20 minutes it starts to feel really slow and sluggish, the windows error message pops up (the 8.1 blue screen saying it needs to restart) and then powers down. If I try to power up afterwards I get mixed results;

1: No beep, no monitor signal, the front fan spins up all the lights come on then it goes off maybe 10-20 seconds later.

2: One beep, loads to the screen where the "-" line drops with the black background but the line doesn't drop, again 10-20 seconds later it powers off.

3: Loads to the screen where the "-" drops again, but it will stay at the top for a few seconds, screen will flash and the line will appear much bigger as if the resolution has just changed, again the pc will power off afterwards.

If left for a while, the PC seems to boot normally, but then will go through the same steps again. I was assuming it can't be the motherboard as it wouldn't normally the first time, but I'm a little stumped.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

edit; I'd just like to add after trying a few more times to see if it boots. The front fan and back fan spin up fine, but after it boots down having been on for even just 10minutes, the top feels warm to the touch. Could this be a problem with the fan above the CPU?

edit 2; Just got in to the bios, CPU is running at 92'C, more likelihood that it's the fan?

is the system overheating? check the heatsink is properly applied with thermal paste and it is down tight, check that there is enough airflow too then download coretemp and check temps, looking at that power supply size too, that could be the problem, it seems awfully small for a build with a 760 i know its 500 minimum for that build but that isnt a recommended its a minimum, are you able to run another OS? try boot into the bios, locate to the temperature section to keep an eye on things and leave it for about an hour, if it doesnt crash it could be the OS itself. try all of these and let us know how you get on

Hey thanks for the reply, just as you posted it I was checking the bios! After leaving it off for around 5 minutes then turning it back on and going in to the bios, the temp quickly rose from 77 to 91 and has stayed at 91. Would you chalk this down to a problem with the CM fan that they have installed? As far as I am aware and can see it is the only fan not spinning.

no problem:) haha! wow thats hot! i would definalty turn the computer off now, unplug it and dont turn it back on until you have replaced the thermal paste and reheated the heatsink! once that is dont check all the fan connections to the three or four pin adapters to check they work individually and are spinning, make sure the fan on top of the heatsink is plugged directly into the motherboard and that is working too!
