Hey guys, I have decided it is now time for a new computer, three years ago a built my current PC, however my knowledge on building computers has dropped slightly mainly due to the fact I never upgraded my PC. This is my current build I am going to go for..

Intel® Core™ i7-6800K Processor

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB GDDR5X

GIGABYTE GA-X99-ULTRA-GAMING Intel LGA2011-3 Memory Chipset ATX Motherboard

Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin Memory

Corsair CP-9020044-UK Professional Series AX860 ATX/EPS Fully Modular 80 PLUS Platinum Power Supply Unit, 860 W

SilverStone-SST-FT02B-W-Fortress-SSI-CEB

So this is the main computer build, obviously I have not yet added the HDD/SSD or CPU Fan. This is where I need some more help, the motherboard runs SATA express and im slightly confused whether if i purchase a HDD/SSD with SATA 3 will the express slots fit? I have read around slightly and it seems the sata express is actually as good as expected. So will the slots be backwards compatible?

Would these parts be okay to use?

Samsung 850 PRO 512 GB 2.5 inch SATA III Solid State Drive - Black

Seagate Desktop 3.5 inch 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive

I am currently stuck for a CPU Fan as I am worried it may block some of the slots on the motherboard because of its size so I may buy a cpu fan at a later date, however I do have a CPU Fan which i purchased for my old computer which I never used... Therefore it is possible I may use that one.

Thanks for any advice.

Tom

If the HDD/SSD you purchase says it is SATA3 then you'll still be fine as the mobo you have selected has 10 SATA3 ports and has one SATA Express port. FYI, if you use the i7-6800k rather than i7-6900k than you'll be losing out on a lot of PCI-E lanes and the ability to use the U.2 connector on your mobo.

The hard drives you selected are fine and as for the CPU cooler, the close proximity of the first PCI-E slot to the CPU socket will probably limit your choices there.

Cheers mate, the memory is compatible for the motherboard and cpu, however I must admit I am not sure how to figure out whether the fan will fit above the the ram, i dont suppose you would have any idea if this cpu cooler would indeed fit? Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 Silentwings CPU Cooler
