I leave my pc often to come back to it frozen; the audio just goes like when the PC BSODs, but no blue screen. Everything is brand new other than ssd, hdd and gpu. Runs windows 11. thought it might be the ram - uninstalled icue and it still does it. It's a full freeze, almost as if someone's removed a part. It mostly happens when i lock the pc but has also happened once when using it; the keyboard and mouse aren't lit up almost as if they're unplugged, nothing has an affect other than holding down power button.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Can you state:
How long have you owned the system?
When did you upgrade to win11(or have you bought it win11)?
How long ago did the problems occur?

A few weeks I built it myself. I installed windows 11 fresh. The problems seem to have started since it was built. I noticed when I would lock the PC , I'd come back to find nothing was responsive and when the speakers turned up it was like the audio loop you get when a PC bsods - but it has done it once when it wasn't locked, so the screen was visible and there was no bsod.

Currently running windows memory diagnostic as it seems to most likely be the ram. I hoped it was just the icue software but maybe it's hardware related. The critical errors in event viewer are related to ACPI and I see in the device manager there are two "unknown" ACPI devices

Your ram seem to be okay. Since you mentioned that most freeze/crash occur when you come back to your PC (assume its in sleep/hibernation mode). I would suggest you go to power settings and remove sleep/hibernation modes, that your pc never sleeps, and see how your PC acts after that. If it still freezes, or if it doesnt. If it does freeze when you disable sleep mode, its unlikelly OS problem.
Settings -> System -> Power & Sleep -> Screen(never), Sleep(never)

It's not in sleep. The monitor goes to sleep but the pc itself is just locked. It also froze the other day when i was just using it

Does it ever happend when you try to boot the system?
Since you mentioned that it mostly happens "It mostly happens when i lock the pc ". I would guess OS driver problem( Your SSD/HDD driver holding the OS) . Try installing your OS to a new/other drive, and see if the problem persists.

No, not yet only when locking and once when using.

Is there anyway I can verify this? I dont have any spare drives other than very old mechanical drives
Cant really tell you if there are other ways, since i am not a experianced technician, but that is the same troubleshoot steps i took, on my various machines that had similar problems to verify. It does not take much time, since your machine, can instal win in 10 minutes flat, +- 10 min for burn USB.

But from what i can figure, these problems that you have described, occurs from faulty storage drive. Ofcourse i could be wrong, but if you have the time you can test the method of reinstalling to a new drive.

You could run this on ssd as it can check health of the drive - https://www.crucial.com/support/storage-executive
can run this on Western Digital hdd - https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=279
windows can tell its hardware as its setting off the whea logger. but its stopping short of doing a BSOD which is odd.

have you tried running PC off the igpu on the intel CPU just to see if it has same reaction after monitor sleeps. Would at least remove GPU from potential causes.

Do BSODs still actually occur in Windows 11 ? is it a feature that perhaps needs to be turned on

I used to get a ton of BSODs on my old build with IRQL not_less_equal etc even though ram was tested fine so it could well be the ssd. ill run the test

It froze again, in the middle of me doing something. Just everything stopped working, mouse, keyboard....

I've downloaded the Crucial tool.
Says SSD is in good health
But when I try and run the 2 minute self test it says"
"Error trying to perform the device self test. Command Aborted by the drive"

Is AHCI enabled by default in bios, i couldn't find anything in there.
The only thing i did find was fast boot was enabled - i disabled this, i remembering enabling it a while back and i can't recall this problem occuring before then.
I also saw that it has "windows 10" set as the os. should i change it to "other"?

Do BSODs still actually occur in Windows 11 ? is it a feature that perhaps needs to be turned on
Yes, they exist. Don't need to be turned on, will happen if it needs to. Most of us don't want them :)
If you aren't getting BSOD But are getting freezes, its hardware, not windows. It doesn't know why its happening or it would produce a BSOD

Wonder how I read Corsair as Crucial
500GB Corsair MX500
this might work better - https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6075-corsair-ssd-toolbox.html

I think it shows in the SATA Config menu, see page 22 here - https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...s_e_v1.pdf?v=93b99305ad3b892dd556a85055ed6fab
its likely a choice between it and RAID

I would leave that as is. Win 11 is close enough.
I wouldn't change things in the BIOS unless you sure. If you changed the boot method, windows may not start, for instance.

Main difference between fast boot and normal boot is with a fast boot, PC runs all its tests at once. Normal just runs them one at a time... so not a massive change.
Some boards have ultra fast boot that disables all USB apart from mouse/kb at start and runs all tests at once. Its slightly more dangerous.

It's a Crucial SSD.
When I try and run the utility self test it says the drive aborted the test.
It froze again today when i was away from the pc having locked it but no audio loop this time
What am I looking at?
Only thing I've got left really is to check XMP and flash bios. is this an ssd fault or something like a cpu? i know its very rare but could still happen

I wonder if the ssd not finishing test is a clue. I assumed I had made a mistake offering tool.
Then try reinstalling your OS on other drive, could very well be that your current drive is giving out.
He might be right.

Unless hdd is full, you could try installing windows on it and see if you still freeze.
Sure, its going to be slower but this is just a test

could run crystaldiskinfo (blue icons) on ssd (you don't run it really, it should see the scores.
I have to think Crucial would do a surface test, something crystaldiskinfo doesn't do.
SMART tests don't see physical problems.

Crystal disk info says it's 88% health no issues.

I found xmp was disabled. Gone to enable and the PC won't even boot now. Just a black screen.

Reset CMOS back running any reason why XMP won't run could this be a sign of an issue there?
I just struggle to believe an SSD can go "bad", especially before my mechanical hard drive
