After years of messing with a pre-built, not so good desktop I've decided to build my own and have been getting advice from friends who have built PCs in the past along with combing the internet for information.
I will be getting a 120 GB SSD that I want to instal Windows 10 on and a 1 TB HDD for storage, I'm planning on installing from a USB stick. I've been told that before installing Windows I need to format the drives for windows (as in externally before putting them in the build). I have seen stuff for Windows 7 on some pages online saying this isn't necessary and some friends who built their computers a few years back have said I don't need to. However, I have another friend who built his PC a year ago with Windows 8.1 and he has said that I very much need to format it first. But I can't find anything about windows 10 so I'm not sure who to believe. I'm leaning towards erring on the side of caution and formatting it anyways, because it can't hurt and while I'm here at school I can use resources here to format them before I go home and build it. I was also told that the SSD is flash memory and that it doesn't need to be formatted, period. I'm not sure if this is even true. I just don't want to be sitting there after building my computer and not being able to use it because I haven't formatted it and have to order a SATA to USB cable to format it.
Thanks in advance for the help!
