So I just tried to upgrade my Windows XP to Windows 7 and now my computer runs like crap and feel I am finally ready to upgrade. I don't game much I am more looking for something I can use the internet, word processors, watching HD movies and TV and will probably be starting a blog so photo editing perhaps in a very minor way. But I wouldnt mind if the PC was built in a way so that if I decided to upgrade a few things in the future I could still play some games if I felt the mood.

I've been out of the computer scene for about a decade now and I dont even know where to start. I thought I would just piece this thing together buying parts at the right prices/deals but I just dont even know what parts to look for. I was hoping to keep the total cost at around $500 CAD. Can some people please give me some advice on motherboards, cpu's video cards etc...

Thanks!

So after looking more, I've come up with this so far.

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Desktop Processor FD6300WMHKBOX

What about these choices? Good reviews on both from what I read, especially for the price point.
