Hey!

Looking for some advice/input on a possible new PC purchase.

I haven't updated/upgraded my PC in forever and I'm currently running on a 1080 ti that just feels old. I just noticed Alienware (don't attack me) dropped their new R15 with the new 4090 cards. I am able to grab one with the below specs for $4.8k total (regularly $5.6k without any discounts) and was wondering if I could get some input on if that seems like a good deal? I do like the idea of it including their accidental protection for 2 years,

13th Gen i9 13900KF
64GB DDR5 5200
1TB NVMe SSD boot + 1TB 7200RPM storage
1350W PSU Cryo-Tech Liquid Cooling
2 years of premium support+accidental

I missed out on some good monitor deals, but I'm not dying for one as I'm currently using an Acer XB271HU.

Appreciate any help/info/tips!

What is this for gaming.

Ouch on that price for a prebuilt that will probably have overheating issues like most of that line have,

Mostly gaming.

I'm not too knowledgeable about everything PC related, but have built my last two and I have read about Alienware's overheating issues. I have also read that with the new R15 they have increased/fixed these issues, but of course, who knows.

I have also looked through a few threads where it seems a similar build would cost relatively the same, but may be wrong about that.

Appreciate the input!

This is a terrible deal in my opinion. All of the Alienware desktop PCs with high end parts in particular run so hot everything thermal throttles itself into being several performance tier below what you are paying for. Are you near a microcenter?

I have read (could be wrong or just bad information) that the cooling on these new R15's is much better.

Roughly an hour from a MC.

I would avoid the alienware PC. A microcenter will build your PC for you same day for like 100-200 dollars and it would still be cheaper than the Dell PC. Something like this would be great if you build it yourself with the same core parts but significantly better PSU+MOBO+RAM and an extra 4tb Games drive.

good deal compared to what?

that seems a bit overkill for 1440p 144Hz gaming.

my current build was ~$2200 and looks much nicer and runs much cooler than i would expect anything of that line to.
i have no issue maxing out any game to date @ 1440p with >120fps.

I wasn't really thinking of the overkill factor, but my head was more in a space of getting that would save me from having to update/upgrade anything for a while.

Maybe going with a previous generation GPU might be better in terms of cost to performance.

Appreciate the input!

Yeh this is massive overkill if you are just gaming you don't need an i9, the i5-13600k is as fast in games, 32GB of RAM is easily enough for gaming too. A 4090 will give you max performance but the cost isn't really worth it unless the only thing you play is Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with RT. If you don't care about the cost a 4080 would do but anyone sensible should look at a discounted 3080 right now.

This definitely makes sense. Maybe looking too much into future-proofing I am jumping too far into the deep end and refocusing on what makes the most sense in terms of cost to performance would be better.

Appreciate it!

If you had to keep the 4090 a build like this will reduce the costs significantly but still give you very similar performance while all being quality parts;

@SillyGooseStuff seeing how you're an hours drive from a MC you might as well have them build the PC for you. You choose the components and they assemble it.
