You should make sure all your RAM is equal, like 4x8 or 4x4, and not mix and match.

I figure I would need that extra RAM whenever I'd use Adobe After Effects or Autodesk Maya. I have 8GB on my old PC so I thought it would be a good idea to transfer that into my new PC. The 8GB RAM itself is is 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition. And the addon would be 2 x 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance Black

I don't quite understand why different RAM sizes do not mix. It would be nice to hear an explanation. Some sort of closure at least :)

Honestly I would try it out with just 16GB, and if you need more then go from there. I think it is best to avoid any issues that may occur from using old ram.

A lot of issues can pop up from mixing two different kinds of RAM, if you mix two different sets, make SURE they're the same speed and manufacturer at least, and they both work in the board. I'd suggest just selling the old RAM and getting more of the new one.
