New PC Build

I have just built my first (gaming) PC. Once complete i plugged the hdmi (graphics card) from the pc into my monitor (vga).
The PC turned on but nothing appeared on the screen...

Do i need to buy an separate adapoter for my motherboard as it doesnt have one integrated? (msi 970gaming)

Please could someone help!

My computer specs are;

AMD FX-8350

MSI 970 gaming motherboard

GTX 960 4GB graphics card

8GB Ram

Only one of the 'Gaming's' dvi ports is a dvi-i which supports analog using a dvi to vga adapter. if it doesn't work from the dvi port you're on, try the other one

Tried using dvi port in graphics card to my tv (hdmi) but still nothing... does it need to be a dvi to vga cable?

Are you trying to use the integrated gpu and the msi? or just the msi?

Im using the GPU and the msi. I've bought a new vga plug to plug into the graphics card and into my monitor... still no signal... there is no vga plug in the motherboard which is the problem..
