Question I can't get old HDD to work on new PC ?

Hello, I cant get my old HDD to work on my new PC, tried every 4 ports, nothing shows up on windows/bios ,was using the HDD a day ago so I think it's working. An SSD i have is working without issues with the same exact cables plugged. Cables used are from the new PSU. The old HDD does not have OS, just pictures and games. The old HDD is Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM006

PC Specs
Motherboard: Asus Prime B650M-R
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: Asus Prime RX 9070 XT
SSD: Lexar NM790 1TB NVMe
PSU: Asus Tuf Gaming 850G 850W

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

By Windows, you mean it's not showing up in Disk Management or Device Manager? Try and enable CSM and see if that brings it to life in the OS.

For the sake of relevance, can you state the BIOS version for your motherboard? Try and use a new SATA data cable for your old HDD and if that helps.

Hey thanks, yes it's not showing up on Disk/Device manager, not in Bios either. I did try and enable CSM to no luck, although in the bios there were several options like Legacy, Legacy+Something I cannot remember and I did try the Legacy + Something ( sorry I just cannot remember what it was but of course can check if needed)

The bios version is 3278, the latest there is on the Asus website that I could found. The cables that I used are the ones that came with the PSU. Would getting something like an USB adapter for it help?

The PSU comes with power cables, I was referring to data cables, they should come with your motherboard, as opposed to recycling data cables from your old build.

I have several of those cables and tried 2 of them to no luck, I will try the others now to see if that helps

Sadly it didn't change anything, all the data cables I tested work with the SSD but not the HDD

I would also like to add I really am not sure if this applies for my case but on the internet I see people mentioned SATA ports getting disabled by NVMe, like I mentioned i did try all ports so this may not be the case, It's also not mentioned in the manual, I'm just very confused

On your board SATA ports do not get disabled by using NVME drive.

You said you replaced PSU.
Did you use new PSU with only new PSU cables?

If even for a small time you were using old PSU cables with new PSU, then HDD could be damaged.
Modular PSU cables are not compatible between different PSU models.
Using wrong modular PSU cables can kill/damage hardware connected.

I did use a cable that I thought was from the new one, when I turned on the pc it started for a second and immediately shut down, after that I changed the cable to the new one. Pc started without issues and since the computer didn't launch all the way I thought maybe the HDD was good. The PSU cables pins are indeed different from eachother now that I've taken a closer look, I didn't pay attention to it before.. Do you think its dead? I was thinking of buying an usb to sata adapter to see if my pc could detect it that way

If wrong voltage was applied to wrong pins it could kill the drive. USB adapter is good idea.

If HDD was connected with wrong PSU cables, then yes.
It could as well be dead.

Thanks for the help guys, I will try it with a USB adapter see if it works if not then I'll toss in the thrash. Luckily it only had games and I didn't want to download everything all over again. I will update the post again after I try the USB adapter
