How about telling us what you plan on doing with this machine?

If this is for gaming, I can tell you now you want to go with an Athlon 64 based system. Also, price / performance AMD will win again.

Any reason why not using SATA drives?
Newegg has 250 gig Western Digital Sata drives for $129. More than double the capacity for $49 more.
Graphics seems a little on the low side unless you dont do a lot of gameing.
Yes like ned said since you building new might want to look at the AMD 64 3200+

Why do you have 2 video cards?
It would be better to have 1 good video card than 2 non so good

Ned_Flanders: I will be using it mostly for graphic design and work, sometimes gaming.

Sturm: Do the SATA Drives have 8MB cache like these? If not is there any disadvantage? If not I will get those drives, thanks.

dunklegend: I have 2 video cards so that I can have 2 monitors and not spend a tremendous amount.

wusy: yes, but the 6800 is very expensive! any alternative? the total for my cards is only 178$ ~ anything comperable with two DVI's?

You want SATA ... faster throughput than PATA and should be 8mb cache as well:

See NewEgg -- you should find some in your budget

Also, do you really have to have TWO DVI's out on those VIDCARD? I'd trust what these guys are saying about which cards to look at and which ones to stay away from.
Edited by okietex on 05/20/05 09:07 AM.

Many cards will support dual displays off one card... you don't need two crappy video cards when one good video card will do the trick. You will be happy you made this choice when you are gaming.

Here I saved you some money

Guys what do you think about this one? It should be better and it's within his budget

Here are some alternatives:

BFG 6600GT 128MB PCI-e $212 (same card at zipzoom for $219)

MSI X800XL 256MB PCI-e $298 (I realize that this is 100 bucks more than your option... but worth it)

Both of these have dual-DVI and will support the dual displays

yeah... I saw that one, and skipped over it. I don't know alot about the XFX cards. Whereas I do know that BFG makes a good card... but I'm gonna go look for some reviews now. Maybe I'm scared of these XFX cards for no reason.

I have read three reviews on that XFX card now... one review said that the only better card in the same price range was the BFG that I listed. But all three reviews gave it pretty good reviews. All of them did note, that the games that come with the card are very lacking, and even disapointing (but I never really care about this anyway).

I'd switch that 530J for a 630. DDR2 doesn't provide much if any perform boost over DDR so you may as well go for some cheaper DDRI RAM. As these people have said, no point in getting 2 video cards (you can't anyways, no where to plug them in) and get a more powerful one that support 2 monitors anyways. The 6600GT suggested is pretty good.

Chuck: the motherboard I chose allows for two pci-e cards..

maybe i should totally reconsider my system, seeing as what everyone has suggested..

I did some changing around, how are the new stats?

Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JD 250GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer ~ 124$

Oops, my mistake.. got this instead: MSI K8N NEO4-F nForce4 Athlon 64 Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial ATA Retail ~ 88$

Other than that what does everyone think? Thanks!

actually your dead wong about 2gigs of RAM being o/c limited. Crucial ballistix is available in a 2gig pack and people have gotten up to 250 3-2-2-6 with it which is awesome. Only downside is that it is expensive stuff and i dont know if u can get it anywhere besides http://www.crucial.com

ye someone @ futuremark tested 2x1gig of those and like i said 250-3-2-2-6 and those were only preliminary results. He had to go to work and i never looked @ the thread again so they could prob go higher. I'll see if i can find the thread.
