I know once I find out the reason why this is happening i'm gonna feel really stupid, but I can't find a solution ANYWHERE on the internet. Just for the record, this isn't the first PC i've ever built.
For Christmas, my parents bought me parts for building a new PC. I already had an old gaming case from 2003-ish, but it doesn't look too old, and it actually looks pretty cool. I also already had an MSI GTX 750 Ti, and 2 HDDs from my previous PC, one being a 1 Tb Western Digital Blue. The new parts I got are an AMD FX-6300, MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard, 8 GBs Kingston HyperX Savage RAM, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and Corsair CX450M PSU.
It was a difficult job to build in such an old case that doesn't have holes for good cable management, but I managed. Now to the problem: In MSI's BIOS, there's a feature called Board Explorer, which allows you to look at all the things connected to your motherboard. In the board explorer, it says that in the PCIe slot is a NVIDIA Graphics Card or something like that, but it detects it at the very least. The GPU IS on by the way, and the fan is spinning, so it's obviously getting power.
Once I boot, it isn't detected by the computer at all. In Device Manager, under display adapters, it says VGA compatible video controller. In AMD Overdrive, it doesn't show anything for GPU. In MSI Afterburner, it doesn't show anything, no GPU name, temp, speed, etc. Not to mention the fact that I can't enable any Windows Aero settings, and i'm stuck to just the basic appearance settings, and that my resolution in the Screen Resolution window is limited to 1600 X 1200, no higher. Even if I right click on the desktop, NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't show up. If I search it up in the Start bar, it'll show up, but won't open.
No where in the BIOS can I find a setting to change which PCI slot is being used, so that's off the table. There's also no VGA or DVI ports on the motherboard itself, either.
Please help me, I spent all day building this PC, and it's terribly frustrating to be stopped by an issue like this.
