Hi, I am sorry if this topic has come up before, I just recently built (within 2 months) a computer and I am running windows 7 home premium 64bit and it hangs up and opens programs very slowly. Boot times are long, when I go to do anything it takes forever, like 2 mins to open up Google chrome. Also it hangs up all the time for like 10 seconds when I click an anything to type. I tried to run the assessment on windows performnce index and not only did it take over 30 mins but it also said the process couldn't be completed. This started to happen after the 3rd week I had the computer just turned it on after sitting 2 weeks and it was SLOW. Any reply would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Solution
A few things you could try:

1- Update BIOS to latest version.

2- Reset BIOS to default settings.

3- Make sure all your drivers are installed and up to date.

If the problem persists. You could either reinstall Windows completely (clean install) and see if things are better (in case this is some driver corruption or something else with the OS). Or you could try to disconnect some unnecessary components and peripherals, boot with minimal components, just 1 stick of RAM, no DVD-ROM, use integrated graphics, etc... and process by elimination and try to see what is causing the slow down.
