I have a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX V.2 motherboard,
AMD RYZEN 5 5600X,
Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 cooler
GTX 1660 Super GPU
Case - KOLINK STRONGHOLD

I have 3 intake (front) and 1 exhaust fan(rear) - 120mm (2 x Be Quiet (plus Kolink case fan) on front, and Kolink case fan on rear).
On checking temps and speed of fans - CPU was initially 28 temp when I checked in bios, now running idle after boot up is 33-36.

Checked the fans RPM when idle - CPU IS 640, = SYS FAN 1 402, = SYS FAN 2 426, = SYS FAN 3 1220.
I wondered why there is such a difference between SYS FAN 1/2 and SYS FAN 3 (low 400's -- 1220). Is that normal? I thought all 3 fans, which I assume are the 3 front mounted fans, should all be roughly same RPM? I am running Smart Fan 5 on standard setting. When I put it on "full speed" setting they all go up to approx 1400, and CPU 1200. Or is one of the SYS FAN 1 2 3 the rear fan? Should I have SYS 1 2 3 4 if I have 3 intake and 1 exhaust?

When I entered bios, the only option for fans was Smart Fan 5 - but I thought there should be other options to monitor and set up fans via the bios? Is it because I have Smart Fan 5 installed and that overides any Bios options/settings?

This is a new PC, just wanted to check settings for fans are ok? When gaming CPU temp goes into the 70's (think I saw it up at 81 also).

Many thanks. Fan Noob !.

did you make PC?

i generally let bios look after case fan temps. it normally does a good job. I leave CPU fan alone as a few years ago I somehow set up a fan curve where CPU fan would turn off if temps reached a certain point which is scary when it happens, case fans suddenly running at max speed...

I have an Aorus X570 Elite WIFI myself, I haven't touched the fans in bios. Now i look, you have more sys fan headers than I do.

WOW. I was blind last night... you have 3 fan headers. I could only see one of them last night but you have 3. look at diagram on page 4. I was looking at wrong page.
misreading a page is more like it.

The way they marked the chart on page 13 confused me. all 3 system fan headers all number 4 on...
smart fan 5 is part of the bios, the app is just a front end in windows 10 that lets you make changes. Its not essential to have app. App might over rule bios if run at startup.

which fan is which is difficult to tell as the fans all link to same header on motherboard - SYS_FAN1/2/3 (page 13 - https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_b550-aorus-elite-ax-v2_e.pdf)

the Aorus System Information Viewer thing doesn't even show where the fan is that links the numbers. Just where the header is on the board.

One could be exhaust. It also could be the 2 fans that are low speed are the bequiet fans and the faster one is one of the default case fans. Its not seeing one of your case fans at all right now.

trying to work out if fans that use molex power can be pwm or if they dc.. the 2 pre installed case fans in your case use molex power. It seems they are likely dc. Dc = 3 pin.

3pin vs 4 pin

if the fans are running off a fan hub then dc fans will always run at max speed.

the 2 bequiet fans are pwm and can adjust speeds more easily, DC fans can be adjusted by power but most of time run at full speed. Hence difference between 3 fans. Only way to have them all same speed is replace the kolink fan with a Bequiet fan :)

Hi, Colif - Thanks for the reply.
Temps seem to be fine, and I will take the side off the case and have a look at the fans, and do a bit more research (google) to see if that helps me understand - Not sure what is going on with the set up. I was just worried in case fans were note performing properly, but they seem to be doing their job.

The way they marked the chart on page 13 confused me. all 3 system fan headers all number 4 on picture, I only saw system fan 2 last night and didn't look any further. was only looking on the smart fan 5 section of https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-AX-V2-rev-10#kf that I realised I was wrong.

Sys fan 1 is at top left corner of motherboard
Sys fan 2 is rear of mb near CPU - likely rear fan attached here
Sys fan 3 is at bottom of motherboard

I should have realised it was wrong as how you attach 3 fans to one header? (slaps self around to wake up)

still doesn't help. just shows where headers are. Which of the 4 fans is which? Um, the 1200 is a Kolink, I know that, other 2? probably be quiets still.
hybrid connectors are just smart enough to know what is attached to them, i am not sure if you can attach more than 1 fan to them (getting into areas I am not sure about)

its possible one of the case fans is running off the motherboard but reporting 0 rpm. I know my top rear fan is attached to my SYS Fan 1 header but smart fan 5 reports it as 0 rpm... its spinning though. Odd thing is rear case fan is also attached to mb and is same type of fan as top one but is showing a speed?
