new pc old os?

hey guys im upgrading from my fx 6350 to an i5 4690k. so with this ill need a new motherboard and im wondering how ill keep my os. i dont have a disc because my os was pre-loaded and i really dont want to have to pay an additional 120 bucks. thank you

If it contains vista or newer it will most likely work, you only need to keep the HDD it is installed on and use that one primarily. If it contains xp it will probably not work right, if 2000/ME or older it will definitely not work.

If the intel upgrade is in a new pc instead of swapping parts from the AMD pc you can always try the old HDD on it and see if it works properly, if it doesn't boot at all with the old OS you'll Have to buy a new win 7/8 OS. If you don't want to buy a new OS you can install Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Manjaro/Fedora for free but you might not be able to play all games you can with windows on it. Then you can use WINE or Oracle VM Virtualbox on the linux distribution.
