Solution

Are you overclocking ? .... overclocking the GPU can increase your wattage by 40-50 watts which would make a 500 watter "borderline".

Read the Guru3D article quotation from 4th post.

I would not use a Coolermaster PSU

The Seasonic PSU I recommended above of the XFX Blackbird posted are what is recommended.

Why the 650 over the 550 ? It seems that 650 is the starting point where manufacturer's seem to compete on performance rather than just price.

XFX 650 - 9.5 performance rating

XFX 550 - 8.5 performance rating...

Here is Guru3Ds power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 760 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 760 SLI - On your average system the card requires you to have a 700 Watt power supply unit.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with a bit more stamina.

I generally never buy less than a 650 as prices for 550s rarely save any money....and if overclocking .... well read above.

550 watters:

$65 Seasonic M12

650 Watters

$85 EVGA SuperNova

$90 Seasonic M12

$80 XFX Core Edition

750 watters (will handle upgrade to SLI)

$80 Seasonic M12

$90 EVGA SuperNova

$85 XFX Core Edition

The Seasonic M12 for $80 with the ability to handle a 2nd 760 in the future seems the most logical choice. If ya sure, you will never go that way .... ever ..... the 550 watt version would be my choice.

Again, for reasons stated in the above post, I would not recommend going less than 650 watts. No you don';t "need" the extra 100 watts but 1) if ya aver do wanna OPC, the opportunity exists w/o a PSU upgrade and 2) when a decent 650 watter can be had for the , $10 more, same price or sometimes even cheaper than a decent 550 watter what's the point ? Also, PSUs hit their peak efficiency point at 50% of load.....that means, all other things being equal, lower noise, lower heat and higher quality output handling the same load with a larger wattage PSU.. As you can see in the two jonnyguru reviews, is a drop in quality / performance from 9.5 to 8.5 worth $10 ?
