Hi guys,

I'm looking to build a new PC, I need it to be generally quick; opening programs, boot time. I tend to have quite a few windows open at a time and I would like to be to run my video encodes in the background using Ripbot264, however this is not essential. I would like to run Vista x64 on this machine, upgrading to Windows 7 x64 when the final version is released.

I already have a PSU it's 500w with the name Magna, I bought it a year back and can't remember the full spec of it. I would prefer to keep that, but if a new one is needed then that's not a problem.

I also have a ATI Sapphire x1950pro, I would like to keep that too, since I don't game on the PC, then it would only be to power Photoshop CS4 on my Samsung T220HD monitor. I'm pretty sure that will be OK.

Moving on, I have a SATA II 320gb Western Digital 7200 hard drive from my old computer which I will be using in the new build, it has 32mb cache.

So after cannibalising my old PC.

Here's what I need:

CPU
Motherboard
Ram
Case
SATA II DVD RW

Looking to spend no more than about £300 - £350.

Here is what I had in mind.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz Socket 775 1066MHz 8MB (2x4MB(4MB per core pair)) L2 Cache OEM Processor

Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L iP43 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual

Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - No PSU

Xilence Red Wing 120mm Quiet Fan - 3&4pin connection

LG GH22NS40 22X SATA DVD±RW/DL/RAM Black Bare Drive - OEM
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151999

That comes to a total of about £320.

I'd like to keep it with ebuyer if possible, they have always provided me with great RMA and customer service.

So I guess I'm asking if,

1) There are any known compatibility problems with this kit.
2) Does anyone have any better ideas for the build.
3) Any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate any help you can give.

wait for the athlon II quad's, They will only be £50-60 and be 45nm based so will overclock very well. You'd also need a new motherboard with that too and current IGP's outperform your x1950pro so there's no point in using more energy for less performance.

The newest on board graphics out perform it? Ouch.

I only bought it last year :(

How long are we talking for the Athlon II quads?

Damn, I really could do with it in the next week or so. Not sure what to do now.

Could you point me in the direction of an Intel board that can match this graphics power?
