New pc wont go to sleep or hibernate.

Hello, I would like some help troubleshooting the new pc i built. It was working excellently, until today when it stopped going to sleep or hibernation. I have tried almost everything i found from other people asking the same question but the problem persists. I installed a new network adapter (pci-express) today and I wonder if that is what is causing my pc to not go to sleep. Thanks in advance.

Pc specs: Windows 8.1
i5-6600k
Gtx 1070
Asus z170-a
and the adapter is a tp-link n900

You made that easier than I expected. Some devices can prevent the machine from sleeping or hibernating. Remove the adapter. If the machine now sleeps, get a different adapter. Maybe a USB one. Let's hope that this simplest solution solves the problem.

You can also go into power control and ensure that sleep is enabled.
