I'm going to build a new pc using a i7 920 cpu and 6Gb ram.
I have vista home premium 32bit and need to upgrade to 64bit.
Instead of getting Vista 64bit could I after the 5th. May use Win 7 64bit on a new build?
I have never tried Win 7 beta or ever used a RC version of software.
Would there be in any problems in using the release candidate version as my main OS?
I was going to buy Win 7 when it comes out late 2009/early 2010 anyway.

I am running build 7100, my first beta build was 68 something. The beta is so stable on my machines I decided not to go back to Vista. This is my first time running a beta or RC as my primary OS.

Don't waste your money buying Vista 64, the W7 RC is stable enough to use now, use that untill you can buy W7, you will have over a year before it's disabled.

Wayne01,

There should be no issues as using Windows7 as your primary OS, however if you are hesitant and feel more comfortable with Vista Home Premium, you might consider a dual boot as you test Windows 7. With an i7 and 6GB of RAM -- Windows 7 will be smoking! The release candidate is very solid and stable and it also offers many new features. Check out the following link for further information:

You do realize that you can get a 64-bit DVD from MS for a measely $10.00, right? Unlike upgrading from XP to Vista, you can upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit for little money. Now if you wanted to upgrade to Ultimate 64-bit, then you'd have to pay the full retail price... but sticking with Home Premium means the cost is negligible.
