I'm currently building a new pc but i've been away from the computer market for a while and I don't know about incompatibility issues.

These are the componenets I have so far

Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz
4GB Corsair 800mhz DDR2 (2 modules)
Seasonic 650W powersupply (Is 650W enough? What recommended PSU for CPU used?)
2 Philips 20x DVD-RW
Any 8600GT card (Any recommendation?)
Zalman 9500 fan cooler
Logitech corded mouse/keyboard
Viewsonic 19" LCD
Western Digital Raptor 150GB
Western Digital 500GB 7200rpm SATA 16mb cache
Internal 3.5" card reader (Any recommendation?)
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Asus Motherboard (Any recommendation? I currently have selected P5k-E) Something around $150-200ish

if it's a gaming pc, stay away from the 8600GT. what's the budget and use?

This is not a "gaming" pc. It is basically for some Hidef DVD playing, some video recording... I just consider something in the "mid-level".

The budget is max 2000. But ideally something around $1500. I just worry about motherboard, PSU, and DVD-RW. Dunno what is the best MB for a quad core.

i would reccomend going with ATI because they do better in the way of multimedia / video recording / HD stuffses...

Okay here's a build that I put up on several posts, so you can decide if this will work for you. It's a good solid build that will game real well, but also do just about anything you throw at it. The prices have changed a bit, so beware, but the prices are pretty close.

Okay here it goes. This will give you plenty of power for now and give you good GPU power for the $.

Case - $57 shipped! One of the better budget cases out there. Currently there aren't any really good steals, so this is what I found. I'd go for a Antec 900 or Cooler Master 690 case, if they were on sale. They usually are around $60-70 when they are on sale, so consider those when they hit the sales rack!

Total ~$1,038 - $95 MIR's = $943!!! Not bad for under $1k. You can obviously find better deals if you go hunting for them, but these are from reputable online vendors, so take that into consideration. Newegg seems to have the best customer service, but doesn't always have a good price on things, so shop around before you purchase.

With 1500$ you can build decent gaming rig

Agree with amd_fanboi for ATi

But if you want for Hidefplaying (do you mean HTPC?), I would prefer go with ATi/AMD setup: GA-780 is the way to go It's low power consuming, versatile HTPC build (w/ Hybrid crossfire options), and low noise.

I would prefer using standard fan instead of additional noisy fan for HTPC build.

Wait a sec here, I just read you already got Q core 2.4GHz (it's Q6600?). Well in this case I agree with amd_fanboi: Gigabyte/Asus/Abit is the way to go. Get any ATi 3xxx video card, depend on your favor 3450 will fit your need, if you don't want any game ..

With the 8600 GT, you need a power supply with 15-16 amps on the 12v rails. I can recalculate if you change that video card to another.
You can get a much smaller PSU if you choose.
