New question, old debate: should I get hdd or ssd?

Before my computer crashed, I had a 250GB ssd (C: ) with windows 10 and some programs installed on it. I also had a 3tb seagate hdd (D: ) that had the rest of the programs on it, as well as all my personal stuff.

My D: drive was being backup up nightly to a 2TB Passport. Currently, the Passport has a total of about 400gb used.

A few weeks ago the computer died. Initially I didn't know why, but it was actually the seagate that went kaput.

Now I've got a clean install of windows 10 on my ssd, all my stuff is on the Passport, but I want to get a new drive to put all my stuff on, as well as stuff like the chrome cache.

Should I spend $50 on the 1TB western digital WD10EZEX, at $0.047 per gb, or should I spend $150 on the 500GB Samsung MZ-75E500B/AM 850 EVO at $0.30 per gb?

I've never been in a position where I have the option to choose between a hdd or an ssd, so I'm a little stumped.

Thanks :)

For data storage and archiving, a HDD is usually the better option as data can usually be recovered after a HDD failure/crash. Although it might require some expense to recover data using a professional data recovery service.

SSD's when they crash or fail, the data on them is usually totally lost with no hope of data recovery.

So for important data use a HDD; for not so important data use a SSD.

Thanks for the reply. Since everything is being backed up, I don't think importance is an issue. I really don't do anything that crucial on a day to day basis. If I do, though, i typically, manually, make a copy to the Passport anyway.
