New Ram - BSOD

Good Afternoon all,

I'm hoping this is a quick fix but it's never normally the case.

My new 4gb laptop ram came this morning for my Fujitsu Lifebook AH530,
My Laptop runs a Max of 8gb Ram, and came with 4gb (2x2) standard, I have tried all combinations of the rams switching the slots, and on each boot, it get's past the initial F2 Bios options then tells me 2 options, Start Windows Normally or that my system needs to be repaired.

Starting windows normally simply restarts the laptop and goes back to this option, Looping over and over.

System repair Gives me a BSOD

The ram that came with the Laptop is samsung (the same as the new ram)
The only difference between the 2 rams (old and new) is that the New ram is 1600mhz speed, and DDR3 PC3-12800,
My old ram that came with the laptop is DDR3 PC3-10600, Is this the issue?
I have also tried the New 4gb ram on its own in both slots, this results in No initial F2 BIOS options, just instant BSOD on startup

My question is this, Does my Motherboard support this speed or the 12800 type?
Using Crucial, they seem to think it does, http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Fujitsu/lifebook-a530#memoryResults
But I've seen stories of their system showing incorrect results so I'm not convinced.

Everything seems fine to be honest, and the only real outcome I can see is that the Ram is faulty?
My Motherboard is FJNBB06 if that helps, I read somewhere about speeds being set in the bios, but I do not have this option in mine.

Really hope we can get this sorted.

Best wishes,
Lee

Your BIOS sets up the RAM timings, most often you will be required to run your RAM at the speed of the slowest RAM module. If you have mixed speed ram, you will need to select the lower speed in your BIOS for all the RAM.

Also note: it is very common to have BIOS updates for your motherboard to allow you to use other RAM modules. So check for updates from the vendor.

I appreciate your reply, I will try to update the bios if possible tomorrow, in the event this doesn't solve the issue what would you recommend with regard to finding ram that is 100% compatible?

I know my way around a computer but finding compatibility etc and going deeper into the working of a computer is not my forte!

Thank you, Lee

I think your new memory would work on this old system if you can get the BIOS to set it up correctly.
Otherwise you have to get the list of memory that the OEM has certified for your machine. I am sure they have some they will sell to you. (tends to be expensive for old memory, maybe 10 times the cost of generic memory)

AH530 Intel® HM55 Express Chipset has a known limitation and it supports only RAM modules with 16 "tablets" on them and not 8. This definitely was the reason I got this error. Nothing to do but replace them.
