Hello

I have a system that does not boot anymore. Additional RAM was installed in it to increase the size, after which the system stopped booting. Fans turn on but the motherboard shows a CPU error light. Tried the old RAM by itself, same thing. Tried different dimm slots and even reseated CPU to no avail. The new RAM kit was the same exact kit bought from the same page as the old one, both kits of 2x8gb, totaling to 32gb together. Is it possible the new RAM configuration shorted the CPU?

System:
B450 Tomahawk
2700x
860 Evo
WD Black M.2
2070 Super
(2) G.skill Ripjaws 16-18-18-30 2x8GB 3200

Thanks!

New RAM could have shorted anything only if it was inserted wrong or is really, really bad CPU not likely.
Have you tried one by one RAM stick in a slot as described in MB manual. Reset CMOS after any change.

Hello and thanks for responding

Yes the ram was tried one by one and the proper dimm channels as told by the MB guide were used. The CPU was put into a different system and that system did not boot either (but it's working fine with it's original CPU). Now I'm pretty sure the CPU is what's bricked.

If you are sure that that second PC was compatible with it, CPU may be bricked but I would still bet on MB being faulty. Could you try that other CPU in your MB ?

Yes, both systems run a 2000 series CPU with up to date BIOS, but there may have been incompatibility issues with timings and such. I will test a different CPU in the no-boot system to verify the source. I already cleared it's CMOS, would that cause any issues with a new CPU?

No, clearing CMOS could only have helped.
So good news, we started with one stick of ram in A2 and then moved up from there until all 4 sticks were in. System works but still unsure of what the original issue was, but I want to bet on dimm slot issues. Thank you for your help.
