Hello guys,

I have 2 identical new RAM (8GB each) I want to install on my laptop's 2 RAM slots. However, it won't work but when I install 1 of my new RAM together with the old RAM (4GB) it works showing available RAM as 12GB.
Is there any solution for the 2 new RAM to work on my laptop? FYI my BIOS doesn't have CHIPSET option to adjust RAM settings.

my new RAM (2 sticks):
CRUCIAL 8GB DDR4 3200 1.2V CL22 RAM

my old RAM (1 stick):
Sky Hynix 4GB DDR4 2400

My laptop MSI GL72 7RDX.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

According to your laptop's specifications;
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GL72-7RDX/Specification
The maximum frequency for the ram supported by your chipset/platform is DDR4-2400MHz. Very likely that the platform can't downclock with the rams you're trying to work with, which could explain why you need the older stick of ram to trigger the system to downclock the other stick of ram.

Can you check and see if your laptop is pending any BIOS updates? If the new rams don't work after a BIOS update, return the rams you got and source a 2x8GB DDR4-2400MHz ram kit.
