New RAM - reboot loop/no monitor - STUCK

Hi all,

First time poster, long time reader. I've been through the several similar topics on this but can't find a fix that is working for me.

I have a custom built Windows 10 machine that I built about 1 year ago and I just bought some new RAM to upgrade from 16gb to 32gb. The new RAM is exactly the same as the old - Ballistix Sport DDR4 -2400, 2 8GB sticks.

I took the usual precautions and installed the 2 new sticks - When I turned it all back on I was getting no signal to the monitor. I took the new sticks out and tried again, everything was fine.

I took out the old sticks and put the 2 new ones in their place to see if the new sticks were the issue, but it worked fine.

Then when I restarted it got stuck in a reboot loop and would restart itself after 2-3 seconds continuously.

I have reset the CMOS and tried all combinations of RAM new and old.

I have managed to get the computer running normally again using just one stick of RAM. So it's at least comforting to know that I have broken something along the way.

I ran the memory diagnostics with the 1 stick in and no problems came up.

I'm at a real loss here and I really need to get this all working because I have a video editing job to finish. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

other Specs:
Windows 10
CPU: Intel i7-7700 3.6ghz
GPU: GeForce GTS 1060 6GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA B250 - HD3P

Thank you!
Ben

You have it booted currently with 1 stick? I would try booting with 1 stick for each stick you have, this will tell you if any of your sticks are dead which could be causing the issue, sometimes sticks are dead from the factory.

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for your reply.

I did manage to successfully boot with the new sticks in place of the old ones, before I got stuck in the boot loop. So I'm quite confident it's not the sticks that have caused the problem.

I have now managed to boot with the two original sticks in place, so I guess I am back to square one.

Maybe there is a certain procedure to adding new RAM with this motherboard? I can't find the instruction manual though and nothing online.

Thanks again

Updates: Ok guys, I took some compressed air to the RAM slots this morning and that seems to have solved everything. All 4 sticks working in all available slots.

I was tearing my hair out about this yesterday and looking at it calmly this morning I tried the thing I probably should have done first.

You live and learn.

Ha, I actually had the same issue yesterday as well, I had replaced a dimm of DDR3 and it couldn't detect and It was working ram because I had just pulled it back out of that system, turned out there was dust in the slots.
