Most of it looks good. I would certainly go with a regular/mainstream video card - at least the 9800GT.

You can use slower ram - DDR3-1333 unless you want to do some extremely high overclocking.

Something to think about, however, is that most of Lightroom and other photo editing apps still aren't very well-threaded which means they use 1-2 cores for most tasks. With that said, an i7 860 with its higher speed and higher Turbo boost might work a bit better. Plus, its cheaper and the motherboards ar generally cheaper. And they should overclock better since they use far less power to begin with.

You didn't list Photoshop but if you did, I would say to load up on ram.

Thanks, but wouldn’t future releases of Lightroom and Capture NX not utilize more of the ability of the CPU?

I have selected the RAM based on a test for overclocking ability, but maybe I should go for a lower one, although I think 6mb (which I selected) should be enough for now. Not using Photoshop a lot now.

Isn’t it smart to go for the 5xxx series because they do support directx11?

Well the 5xxx does support DX11, though I think the implementation on apps such as Adobe Premiere would rather use CUDA or Stream (which bypasses the whole DX layer). Also DX is used more for games rather than actual processing.
