Hi everyone.

So i just built a new rig. replaced all internals with the exception of 3 hard drives, none of which are my primary. specs as follows:

i7 3.5 ivy bridge
evga GTX680 classified
gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH motherboard
32GB geil DDR3 1600
intel SSD
corsair AX1200 power supply
windows 7 64

so my problem is, after a seemingly random amount of time in a game, it crashes to desktop. sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes after 3 hours. I have checked my temps, which are all fine (use an antec 900 case), everything generally runs under 50 degrees. the crash is not your typical CTD either, the game does not shut down. essentially it Alt Tabs itself, and stops responding so you cannot get back into it. you have to force stop it via task manager. I have had a quick look in event viewer, posted below

i re-installed the drivers, to the latest version. problem still occurs.

have attempted to update the bios, however gigabytes website seems to default to the 32bit version, cannot run the updater. and cant see an option to download any 64bit version

dont know if this is relevant, but the problem occurs in black ops 2 far more frequently than far cry 3

These drivers?

ok so i have updated the bios, and at first i thought the problem was solved. It seemed to last a little longer than it did before, but the problem is still there.

chasing some more suggestions.

ressurrecting this thread, as im still having problems.

however i think i now know why it is crashing games. Originally, i was only checking CPU and GPU temps. i checked motherboard temp, and it rises to 85 degrees celsius, this is the temp range when games crash.

while my motherboard reaches 85, my GPU stays around 55 and CPU even lower than that. This is while playing Crysis 3.

Why would my motherboard be getting so much hotter than my GPU?

to add to the above, is it possible that its just a faulty temp sensor? even idling in windows the motherboard temp fluctuates alot. changing a degree every 2 seconds, sometimes jumping 4-7 degrees in one hit. while the CPU and GPU temps stay the same untill i open a game

ok, more updates.

turns out the software i was using to monitor temps was mixing the motherboard temp with CPU temp. I now have hwmonitor, and it is telling me my CPU is reaching over 100 degrees celsius.

But as said before, the temp seems to fluctuate much more than it should. it only took about 10 seconds to go from 100 degrees to 60 degrees. And sitting here watching it now, it jumps wildly. changing as much as 7 degrees every second.
