Replacing a rig I pieced together over 5 years ago. Looking for a few suggestions. Have the following in mind:

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $199
------- Bounus: this mobo comes with 8G G. Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3

Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core $319

OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $199

MSI N660Ti PE 2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 $304

Windows 7 or 8...?

My inital thoughts are that i may be buying to much CPU and not enough GPU...?

How powerfull of a PSU should i have. Currently I have a 650W PSU in my existing sytem. I think i will transfer this over if it meets the needs. Same goes for my moniotr, case, keyboard, mouse, etc...

Main interest: Mostly Gaming

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in Advance!
Which 650W power supply do you have? Its worth replacing if its not a great unit.

If this is just for gaming, then there is no point for a i7-3770K. There is virtually no benefit over the cheaper i5-3570K unless you do alot of video work and stuffs.

Also, if you plan to overclock, then make sure to get a CPU cooler.
^Going off of what he said, the i7 will get you no better (or worse, in some cases) performance than an i5 - games don't use hyperthreading.

That motherboard is a good one, or you could go with a Gigabyte z77x-ud3h. They're both amazing for overclocking.

Nice pick on the SSD, but I'd buy the 128GB version and a terabyte hard drive for the same price. (But that's just me, because SSDs take performance hits when they get more than 70% full.)

Spend more on the GPU. Rough guidelines is to spend twice on the graphics card what you did on the CPU. I'd go with a GTX 670 or Radeon 7970 - the 680 is a waste of money.

I prefer windows 7, simply because windows 8 hasn't gotten all the kinks smoothed out yet.

Your power supply should be fine. What resolution is your monitor, and what are the other components? (Case especially - does it have decent airflow?)

Ok this was good feedback looks like t I5 3570k is the way to go.

I also changed my mind on the case and have opted for the following:
Antec Three Hundred Two Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded 2 x USB 3.0 $69.99

As for my monitor I'd like to continue using the one I have today which is roughly 3 years old, atleast till the 3d monitors come off a bit in price.

My existing monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster T240 (24in 5ms 20000:1 Dynamic Contrast 1920 x 1200 HDMI) This monitor was top of the line when it first came out.

My existing power supply is Antec NeoPower 650W. This I am not sure about and wonder if I should replace.

I also plan to start looking at the GTX670 video cards.
