2013 -

4770k OC
16gb RAM
GTX 770

As of last week -

4770k OC
16gb RAM
RTX 2070

I can’t make my mind up, should I stick with it for now, upgrade to a 4790k (wait for 10nm CPUs) or go all out and buy a 9700k now?

I mostly play pubg, what are your thoughts?

Solution
The 4790k wouldn’t be much of an improvement over the 4770k especially since you said you have it OC’d.

PUBG isn’t multithreaded very well and prefers faster cores over more cores so the 9700k would give you a decent performance boost but right now intel is being hurt by AMD and everyone is waiting to see what Zen 2 will force them to do.

So I’d wait. Intel is just releasing CPU’s with more and more cores on what is pretty much the same architecture they’ve been using for a few years now. Hopefully Zen 2 will force them to make a big jump in performance. If not then Zen 2 will likely be the way to go.

I would either wait to upgrade your hardware or upgrade your display. In my opinion 1440p is really the sweet spot for PC games. The...
What resolution are you at? If you’re at 1080p that cpu would hold you back in PUBG but in 1440p or 4K you’re fine. I’d wait and see what new CPU’s come out even if your current cpu is holding you back a bit.

I am currently at 1080 and don’t really have any plans to go higher, doesn’t bother me...

The boost in detail is great compared to 1080p. 4K is great but really doesn’t show much improvement in monitors until you go over 32”. Your system is also prefect for 1440p gaming.

Solution
Thanks for the help guys, I’ve just re investigated and for some reason my cpu was locked at 3.4ghz, now back up to 4.3ghz. Not sure how that happened, maybe AI suite messing about? Had issues with tuning software before, disabled hyperthreading.
