Question New Samsung 850 EVO is empty but missing 396 gb of space

I got a Samsung 850 EVO and installed it into my computer, but as I tried to place a game on it I realized that 396 GB out of the 500 were already taken up. I looked at it in file explorer and there are no files at all. Windows and other files have always been on another drive, this is just a storage upgrade. I don't know what is happening in the slightest.

It could be just a corrupt file system. It does happen. That or it's hidden files, but that's an awful lot to be taken up in any event.

If there's nothing on it, just format it and the space should be restored. That or you can use the Samsung Magician tool to do a secure reset.

It will not format for some reason
"windows is unable to complete the format"

Is this a brand new drive or something you picked up used?

I found out that when I tried to make a simple volume, it only used 500 mb not 500 gb, so when I tried to use it I wasn't paying close enough attention. First timer mistake that I will never make again.
