I bought a new sata hard drive 1 TB but it appears to be smaller in width than my current hard drive. In other words, it won't fit into the drive cage. The drive is too narrow. Is there a workaround for this?
Never mind. Fixed it. I just took the screws and what looks like double rubber washers (that the screws are in) from the old hard drive. Snug as a bug now.

It is quite easy to mistakenly buy a laptop size drive. I see many members here select one of those by mistake.
2.5" SSD or 2.5" HDD....will need a 2.5" - 3.5" adapter plate.

I didn't buy a laptop drive. It clearly states on the box Desktop drive. I do have another question. I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate on the new hard drive. I have an ISO on a flash drive. Am I supposed to put Windows 7 USB-DVD download tool installer on the flash drive also to make it bootable. I don't have a blank DVD, so I have to use a flash drive. How do I get to the boot menu to change the order. This is all new to me. Can you please help.
I apologize if this thread is in the wrong area.
Thank you

For the OS and the flash drive:
No, you don't put it on the flash.
You run that from your PC, and point it at the ISO file and the flash drive.
It will copy the needed things onto the flash drive, and make it bootable.

To change the boot order - That is done in the BIOS

As for the drive size - do you have a make/model, or a link to what you purchased?
Edit: Nevermind..I see you have fixed it

Is there a video or pictures online somewhere of how to do this. So I run the Windows 7 USB-DVD download tool installer from the flash drive after changing boot order? After that, will there a windows interface yet or will I run from command prompt. If I could see pictures or videos showing the steps, this would be a lot easier. I just don't want to mess anything up.
I purchased a 1TB Seagate desktop hard drive.

1. Install that USB-DVD tool on your PC
2. Know where your ISO file of the Windows install is
3. Start that USB tool

Click "Begin Copying"
When it is done, power off, disconnect any other hard drives, power on, and boot from that flash drive. This starts the Windows installation.
Install to that 1TB drive.

I'm confused. After I download the USB-DVD tool, do I drag it to a flash drive or do I open it from the computer I am using to write this? In the images above, is this done from the working computer or from the computer I am installing windows? I'm sorry for all the questions.

On your currently working PC:
Download the USB/DVD tool
Run the installer to install that tool
The Windows 7 ISO on the flash drive....copy that to the PC somewhere. Remember where this is.
Run that Windows DVD/USB tool
See the steps above...
