new software will not run

I recently uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled the driver & utility software on my pc. I was trying to troubleshoot why the wireless connection was dead. The installer said the software was installed. Control panel - device manager said the drivers were the most recent. It also said no drivers were installed (HUH??)
When I double click on either the shortcut or the actual exe nothing happens.
I thought the PCIe slot was bad but the wireless adapter does show up under device manager. What's causing this?

are you sure it is the proper driver? What is the model number of the wireless device?

It's Trendnet TEW-726EC. The drivers are directly from the device installation disc.
