Hi!
I just bought my brother a new SSD for his pc and when I tried to plug it in and initialise it, it wouldn’t show up on the bios. So I unplugged his HDD with his games on it to try and use the hot swap bit that was in. That didn’t work either. I plugged the HDD back in and now it doesn’t work!? I’ve tried multiple cables and different stuff but the second disk and new SSD do not show up. The OS HDD works with all of these cables AND both hot swap bays. What on earth is happening!?

Solution
Try flashing the CMOS and his old HDD may work again, difficult to say what the SSD problem is without running the manufacturer diagnostic on it.

Check the TVS diodes. If either is shorted, then your PSU should be suspect.

Okay so I did all the checks and it turned out the SSD was dead out of the box and the HDD was fine. I think the issue was the PSU shorted which is weird because it should have been able to handle the addition of an SSD!😂 but thanks, new PSU in and all working fine. New SSD ordered too
