New SSD being read as DVD-RW drive

Hey guys,

First off thanks for your help. Long time builder here and I can't figure out what is going on with my newly added drive.
- Asrock Z77 Extreme MOBO
- Added SSD #2 today (850 EVO Samsung)

For whatever reason my computer is reading this new SSD drive as a DVD-RW. I can't format or reassign it for some reason. See the pics attached. I can't find anyone else having this issue. I've tried multiple SATA ports on the MOBO with no prevail. Still have a DVD drive attached and working too!

Is your bios set to ahci?

What have you tried so far other than different sata ports? Did you try unplugging the actual drive? I need more info

So here's the scoop. No idea why it was locked, but from what I can tell this is happening on some of the Samsung drives. The way I fixed this was to create a USB boot drive (using Magician) then doing a secure erase through DOS. Not the most intuitive thing in the world (scrambled screen at first dos window was fixed using "SEGUI0 /s" in the command prompt. Had to powercycle the drive in DOS during the process as well. After this, was able to get back to windows and use Disk Management to create a new partition on the drive and a NTFS format.
Now the drive is up and running.
