New SSD - black screen

Hi guys.

i5, P8Z77-V LX, 8GB
Upgrading from a SanDisk 64gb to a 120gb Samsung 840 EVO.

Boot stick in hand with Win 8.1 ready to go...
Turn PC on and I'm greeted with a black screen 🙁 - monitor plugged into onboard GPU as obviously no drivers installed.
I've tried putting in my old SSD + HDD and still get a black screen!?

With my old SSD + HDD my PC will boot to login - to turn off requires long press of power button.
New SDD - single press turn off as its not making it past BIOS.
***both with black screens, I'm not seeing BIOS or the login***

Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you enter bios and change boot selection to usb as primary boot device?
If usb drive is plugged in it should be detected and listed in bios.

I'm not even seeing my BIOS screen.
