i'm building a new gaming computer and I'm going to use windows 10 as the OS, i bought a Samsung 250Gb 850 evo ssd that I want to use as the boot drive. I want to make 2 partitions on the drive a 90Gb and a 160Gb split so i can use the 90GB for the OS and the 160Gb for any games i want to load fast. Do i need to pre-partition the drive before i install the OS or can i plug it in and partition it during the OS installation?

Solution
No need to partition the SSD. Use it for both the OS as well as for the games that you want to install. Partitioning the "C" drive is old tech and is not recommended these days. You can also install a separate drive for your data files.

I wanted to partition it so the OS file aren't on the same partition from all my downloads and games, i'm putting in a 2Tb hdd for games and other files. i just want the OS on an isolated partition to help protect the OS from getting a virus or bugged because of some thing i downloaded

A 250 GB SSD is not really 250 GB. After over-provisioning, the available space is somewhere around 210 GB. That's why it is advisable to install a WD Black 1TB drive for data ($65 when on sale), and leave the SSD for the OS + games + programs.

Because of the programs that I have, my "C" drive is a single partition Samsung 500 GB SSD and this has the OS + Games + Programs. My data is on a 1 TB WD Black 3.5" drive.

Being on a different partition makes zero difference.

I've already bought the parts just waiting on them in the mail now
