new ssd installed, now freezing up

I have removed my failing hard drive from my Compaq Presario CQ5600F after cloning onto an 500 gig ssd Samsung 850 evo. Installed ssd and loads windows 7 pretty quick then starts to download updates for the ssd I would imagine and it freezes up and cannot do anything after that, only running with 4g ram. not sure if that is the problem. amd Athlon 2 170u processor. PC is about 7-8 yrs old.
