New SSD installed seems too slow

So I just installed a 500GB Samsung 850 evo on my laptop Lenovo Y50, but moving files to my external hard drive(Mypassport Ultra 1TB) seems too slow. I have installed the samsung software and enabled RAPID mode and went to BIOS and changed the SATA interface and everything, but when I move a movie from my external hard drive to laptop and vice versa, I only get like 80MB/s.
The description of this SSD says read and write is about 500MB/s and I knew that it wouldn't be that high but still 80MB/s is not much different from my old hard drive. Maybe SSD does not increase performance in USB connection or motherboard? And yes I'm using USB 3.0.

Also when I use samsung magician for benchmark results it says it's runnind sequential read ay 536MB/s and write at 497MB/s but I don't really feel like it's running as I expected.

So is this speed normal for SSD or am I having a problem?

My laptop spec is

Intel core i7-4710HQ @ 2.5GHz
16GB RAM
Windows 8.1
2GB GeForce GTX 860M

Thank you.

That is normal, think about it your using your external harddrive connected via usb, you can only copy from and to that hardrive as fast your usb connection allows.

In matter in fact if you made that hard drive internal and connect it to a sata port, file transfer will still be slow. because all though the ssd is faster your still limited by a mechanical hdd

So it is normal? I though USB 3.0 allows for 640MB/s... and I can only assume that if my laptop supports USB3.0 and External Hard Drive supports USB3.0, and I have installed SSD that is powerful enough to transfer files at that speed, it should be at least above 100MB/s

Nvm I got it. So my external hard drive is only 5400rpm. Tnx for your reply.
